If you live outside Durham, but want to send your child to school in the DDSB, you can register for a DDSB@Home virtual school. The virtual school serves students from all across Durham District School Board, and offers similar programming to a physical school. The virtual campus staff will work closely with your child’s home school to meet your child’s educational needs. Students can enroll in either Elementary or Secondary. For more information, visit the DDSB@Home website.
The Professional Learning Hub has more than 200 course offerings and more than 19,000 users. Over the first year of its operation, it has received over 170,000 log-ins and over 80,000 awards. It is easy to access a virtual campus for students, even from mobile devices.
The DDSB will offer DDSB@Home at separate virtual elementary and secondary schools for the 2022-23 school year. The school board will provide a transition window for families to choose which option they want for their child’s education next year. The school board is focusing on stability in its classrooms and doesn’t want to disrupt students. The school board is currently enrolling approximately 6,155 elementary students in DDSB@Home virtual learning, up from 5,717 students in the first semester.
The DDSB needed to change how professional development for staff was delivered. To do so, the district implemented D2L Brightspace, a virtual campus that provides flexibility and timely professional development. To help staff, the innovation education department developed on-demand courses and added links to important professional resources.
