A Model United Nations: What Is It?
Kacmun, Students can study about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations through an educational simulation and/or academic activity called a Model United Nations, or MUN. In MUN, participants are required to conduct study on a nation and assume the position of a diplomat from that nation in order to argue, discuss, and resolve fictitious international issues. At a Model UN meeting, students represent nations other than their own and are typically placed in committees. Every year, the Kyungnam American School Model United Nations Conference (KASMUN) aims to teach youth about global citizenship and the value of diplomacy and effective communication in resolving disputes.
Ideals of the United Nations
The Model United Nations (MUN) is the foundation upon which the Korean American Coalition Model United Nations (KACMUN) is built. Students can study about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations through the educational simulation and academic activity known as MUN. KACMUN aims to impart these same ideals in its members and gives Korean American students a platform to learn about and commemorate their culture.
The four primary tenets of the Model UN—education, discourse, diplomacy, and service—are the foundation upon which KACMUN functions. These values direct our company and assist us in achieving our objectives.
Education: KACMUN aims to teach its members about cultures, customs, and global issues. We think that through learning about many viewpoints, we can develop into more enlightened and accepting global citizens.
Debate: KACMUN promotes attentive listening and enthusiastic engagement in debates. We think that every person can make a meaningful contribution and that productive communication is crucial to solving challenging issues.
Diplomacy: KACMUN encourages nations to resolve their disputes through diplomatic means. We think that keeping the globe peaceful and secure requires cooperation.
Service: Through its service initiatives, KACMUN aims to improve our community. We think that modest deeds can make a huge difference and that it is our duty to help those who are less fortunate.
The past of KACMUN
A group of Korean American college students who were committed to changing the world founded the Korean American Coalition Model United Nations (KACMUN) in 2006. The founders thought they could empower the next generation of Korean Americans to effect positive change in their communities and beyond by giving aspirational young leaders a forum to participate in international issues.
KACMUN was founded and has since expanded to become one of the biggest and most prestigious collegiate Model UN conferences in the country. Every year, more than a thousand delegates from all across the nation convene at KACMUN to talk about urgent world issues and gain knowledge of the fundamentals of international relations and diplomacy. KACMUN’s Procedure Rules
Every year, students from high schools and colleges around the country come together for the Korean American Coalition Model United Nations (KACMUN) conference to learn about and take part in the Model UN simulation. The Korean American Coalition (KAC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, collaborates with Pepperdine University’s Global Leadership Academy to organize and manage the conference.
KACMUN aims to give delegates a platform where they may improve their public speaking and debating abilities, get insight into international relations and contemporary global concerns, and learn about the inner workings of the United Nations. Furthermore, KACMUN works to foster an environment of respect and cooperation between participants so that disputes can be settled amicably and peacefully.
For all KACMUN delegates, the following Rules of Procedure have been created in order to achieve this goal:
- At all times, delegates are expected to show respect for chairs, personnel, and other delegates. This involves abstaining from insulting or personal assaults when giving a speech or participating in a discussion.
- Every delegate is required to follow the rules outlined in the Official KACMUN Delegate Handbook.
- Only English may be used for all speeches. There will be no interpretation offered by the Language Services staff.
- The chairpersons will firmly enforce speaking time limitations; delegates who go over their allocated time will be asked to give up the floor.

Honors & Awards at KACMUN
Numerous accolades and recognition have been bestowed upon KACMUN by numerous organizations since its founding in 2009. The National Model United Nations named KACMUN the 2012 “Outstanding College Model UN Conference.” 2013 saw KACMUN win the Harvard National Model UN Conference’s “Best Overall Delegation” title. At the NMUN New York Conference, KACMUN most recently took up the “Outstanding Large Conference” honor in 2014.

There are several methods for you to participate in KACMUN. One method is to become a member of a committee.
