Halton Catholic District School Board
The Halton Catholic District School Board is a publicly funded Catholic school board in Burlington, Ontario. D2L HCDSB Student Trustees
The Halton Catholic District School Board has received a legal opinion in support of a policy that requires student trustees to be members of a Catholic parish and attend regular mass. This policy is being challenged by a group of students who say it is discriminatory. Andrew Lokan, a lawyer with Paliare Roland Barristers, defended the policy.
The Student Senate of the Halton Catholic District School Board recently held its annual election for Student Trustees. Candidates were selected based on their commitment to their faith and involvement in their school and parish. The candidates were then vetted by the Student Senate. The resulting slate of Student Trustees was then elected through a secret ballot.
Student Trustees are senior high school students elected by their respective student senates. Every school board in Ontario has at least one student trustee. Our board has three student trustees. The Student Trustees attend regular Board meetings and vote on matters that are important to them. They are a vital link between students and the Board. They are also involved in running the Student Senate.
